About Us

Our Story Begins in Yunnan

In the misty mountains of Yunnan Province, at 2,000 meters above sea level, families have cultivated mushrooms on oak logs for over a thousand years. The cool alpine air, pristine water, and high-altitude sun create the perfect conditions for shiitake and wood ear mushrooms of exceptional quality.

The Farmers

We work directly with family farms in Yunnan — multi-generational growers who hand-pick every mushroom at peak maturity and dry them the traditional way: under the high-altitude sun, with zero sulfites, zero preservatives, and zero shortcuts.

Our Mission

Gold Umami was founded on a simple belief: the best ingredients should not be hidden. We bring the rich, deep flavors of Chinese mountain mushrooms straight to American kitchens — because great cooking starts with great ingredients.

Why “Gold Umami”?

Umami is the fifth taste — the deep, savory richness that makes food satisfying. It is what dried shiitake does to broth, what wood ear adds to hot and sour soup. And “Gold” is our promise: premium quality, single-origin, farm-direct.

Our Standards

  • Single-Origin: Every mushroom is traceable to the farm and harvest season
  • Lab-Tested: Batch-tested for purity with zero sulfites and zero additives
  • Farm-Direct: No middlemen — farmers get paid fairly, you get better mushrooms

From Our Family to Yours

Whether you are making your first hot and sour soup or your hundredth, we are honored to be part of your kitchen. Taste the difference that real, farm-direct mushrooms make.
